Article about the forro language dubbing workshop in the magazine Ikala

First publication date: 23/10/2024

The article ‘From exclusion to active intergenerational participation: a dubbing project in a minority indigenous language’ written by Ines García-Azkoaga and María Montory has just been published. It has been published in the journal Íkala, Revista de Lenguaje y Cultura, in an issue edited by the UNESCO Chair on Language Policies for Multilingualism.

The article explains about the dubbing workshop held to strengthen relations between the different generations in Sao Tome and Principe and to promote the minority language Forro. In this African island, the Forro language has less and less presence and prestige, and nowadays it is only spoken by the elderly, while the young people use Portuguese. Thanks to the NGO Cooperación Bierzo Sur, we had the opportunity to organise a workshop to dub some animations into Forro language, in order to strengthen intergenerational relations and help revitalise the Forro language. In this article you will find out about the experience.
