Team Endocannabinoids & NeuroAdaptation, NeuroCentre INSERM U1215, Bordeaux, France

Director of Research at INSERM (Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale), Dr. Chaouloff's interests are centered since years on stress adaptation on the one hand, and the neurobiology of exercise on the other hand. With his collaborators, he has recently devoted his activity on the role of the endocannabinoid system in the motivation for natural rewards, focusing on exercise and food intake in mice.

The presentation will try to convince the audience that such a system plays a key role when a choice between exercising and feeding might occur, with possible impacts on human pathologies (e.g. exercise addiction, restrictive anorexia). Francis Chaouloff has published more than 130 scientific articles in journals indexed in the JCR, has more than 5,000 citations and an H-index of 41.

Among his recent publications:

  • Chemical Proteomics Maps Brain Region Specific Activity of Endocannabinoid Hydrolases. Baggelaar et al. ACS Chem Biol. 2017 Mar 17;12(3):852-861.
  • Running per se stimulates the dendritic arbor of newborn dentate granule cells in mouse hippocampus in a duration-dependent manner. Dostes et al. Hippocampus. 2016 Mar;26(3):282-8.
