How to get here

By plane:

  • There are direct buses from Madrid Airport (Barajas, Terminal 4) to Donostia-San Sebastián (length: 5 ½ hours).
  • Within a radius of little more than 100 square kms. Donostia- San Sebastián has 3 airports, 2 of them international.
    • Donostia- San Sebastián has an airport 20 kilometres from the city centre, which offers connections to Madrid and Barcelona.
    • 100 km away is Bilbao Airport, connected to the whole of Europe, and 40 km away is Biarritz Airport, from which French and low-cost companies operate.

By train:

  • RENFE
    The train company RENFE offers both long-distance and commuter train services.
    Located right in the city centre, the Donostia-San Sebastián train station, referred to as the ‘Estación del Norte' (the North Station), is connected to a large number of cities in Spain including Madrid and Barcelona, as well as international destinations like Paris and Lisbon.
    Getting in and out of Donostia-San Sebastián via train will be much faster thanks to the new High Speed Train, which will in the near future connect the city to various destinations.
  • EUSKO TREN
    The city has, moreover, in the EuskoTren service, a narrow-gauge railway network which connects: Bilbao to Donostia-San Sebastián, passing through different coastal towns like Zarautz, as well as a line which links Hendaye (France) and the French railway network SNCF to Lasarte, passing through Donostia-San Sebastián (with the train popularly called the "Topo" or ‘mole').
  • SNCF
    The French company SNCF takes passengers to global capitals like Paris from Hendaye train station.

By bus:

  • Donostia-San Sebastián has a bus station which connects the city to other cities throughout Spain and some in Europe. The bus station is situated just in front of the RENFE train station and offers travellers comfortable modern facilities.

Your accommodation

If you have chosen to stay at the Olarain Hall of Residence don't forget to notify us about your date and time of arrival so that everything is ready (see the Accommodation section).

The first day

Remember that on Monday, September 2, at 09.15 we will have a short welcome ceremony in the Miramar Palace, presided over by the Vice-Rector of the University of the Country, in which, besides meeting the other participants in the Basque Culture International Summer School and the coordinator who will accompany you throughout the whole program we will give you your welcome pack and all the information that you will need during your stay.
