1. Of the Origin and Revolutions of the Roman Laws on Successions

Gai hau antzina-antzinako instituzioez ari da eta, sakoneraino iristeko, onar bekit erromatarren lehen legeetan arakatzea; ez dut uste orain arte inork halakorik egin duenik.

Esta materia se refiere a instituciones de antigüedad muy remota, y para conocerla bien me he permitido buscar en las primeras leyes romanas lo que no sé que hasta ahora se haya descubierto en ellas.

Cette matière tient à des établissements d'une antiquité très-reculée, et, pour la pénétrer à fond, qu'il me soit permis de chercher dans les premières lois des Romains ce que je ne sache pas que l'on y ait vu jusqu'ici.

THIS affair derives its establishment from the most distant antiquity, and to penetrate to its foundation, permit me to search among the first laws of the Romans for what, I believe, nobody yet has been so happy as to discover.

and as these had a natural dependence on the constitution, and were derived from the division of lands, it is easy to perceive that they had not a foreign origin, and were not of the number of those brought into the republic by the deputies sent into the cities of Greece.
