Handik gutxira, Zaratustrak, aztiagandik libratu zenean, norbait ikusi zuen zihoan bidearen ertzean eserita: gizon beltz garaia zen eta aurpegi zurbil zargailekoa:

No mucho después de haberse librado Zaratustra del mago vio de nuevo a alguien sentado junto al camino que él seguía, a saber, un hombre alto y negro, de pálido y descarnado rostro:

Peu de temps cependant après que Zarathoustra se fut débarrassé de l'enchanteur, il vit de nouveau quelqu'un qui était assis au bord du chemin qu'il suivait, un homme grand et noir avec un visage maigre et pâle.

Not long, however, after Zarathustra had freed himself from the magician, he again saw a person sitting beside the path which he followed, namely a tall, black man, with a haggard, pale countenance:

For at the same moment had the sitting one already perceived him; and not unlike one whom an unexpected happiness overtaketh, he sprang to his feet, and went straight towards Zarathustra.

Pero ahora también él ha muerto, el más piadoso de los hombres, aquel santo del bosque que alababa constantemente a su Dios cantando y gruñendo.

Mais maintenant il est mort lui-même, le plus pieux des hommes, ce saint de la forêt qui sans cesse rendait grâce à Dieu, par des chants et des murmures.

Now, however, is he himself dead, the most pious of men, the saint in the forest, who praised his God constantly with singing and mumbling.

Ez dut jadanik aurkitu, bere txosna aurkitu dudanean-bai ordea bi otso barruan, haren heriotzarengatik uluka-zeren piztia guztiek maite baitzuten.

A él no lo encontré ya cuando encontré su choza,-pero sí a dos lobos dentro, que aullaban por su muerte-pues todos los animales lo amaban.

Je ne l'ai plus trouvé lui-même lorsque j'ai découvert sa chaumière-mais j'y ai vu deux loups qui hurlaient à cause de sa mort-car tous les animaux l'aimaient.

He himself found I no longer when I found his cot-but two wolves found I therein, which howled on account of his death,-for all animals loved him.

Then did I haste away.

Alferrik etorri al naiz oihan eta mendi hauetara?

Had I thus come in vain into these forests and mountains?

Orduan erabaki zuen nire bihotzak, beste norbait bilatzea, Jainkoa sinesten ez dutenen artean jaieratsuena-Zaratustra bilatzea!"

Mi corazón decidió entonces que yo buscase a otro distinto, al más piadoso de todos aquellos que no creen en Dios-, ¡que yo buscase a Zaratustra! "

Mais mon coeur s'est décidé à en chercher un autre, le plus pieux de tous ceux qui ne croient pas en Dieu,-à chercher Zarathoustra!"

Then did my heart determine that I should seek another, the most pious of all those who believe not in God-, my heart determined that I should seek Zarathustra!"

Honela mintzatu zen agurea eta begi zorrotzez begiratu zion aurrean zutik zeukanari;

Así habló el anciano y miró con ojos penetrantes a aquel que se hallaba delante de él;

Ainsi parlait le vieillard et il regardait d'un oeil perçant celui qui était debout devant lui;

Thus spake the hoary man, and gazed with keen eyes at him who stood before him.

Zaratustrak ordea aitasantu zaharraren eskuari heldu zion eta luzaroan miresmenez begietsi zion.

mas Zaratustra cogió la mano del viejo papa y la contempló largo tiempo con admiración.

Zarathoustra cependant saisit la main du vieux pape et la contempla longtemps avec admiration.

Zarathustra however seized the hand of the old pope and regarded it a long while with admiration.

"Hara, agurgarri hori", esan zion gero, "zeinen esku eder eta luzea!

"Mira, venerable, dijo luego, ¡qué mano tan bella y tan larga!

"Vois donc, vénérable, dit-il alors, quelle belle main effilée!

"Lo! thou venerable one," said he then, "what a fine and long hand!

Beti bedeinkapenak banatzea besterik egin ez duenarena bezalako eskua da hori.

Ésta es la mano de uno que ha impartido siempre bendiciones.
