Joan den ekainaren hogeita zazpian, hiru gizonen zelatan ibiltzeko agindua jaso nuen Cuff sarjentuaren aldetik. Gizonak, itxura guztien arabera, indiarrak ziren, eta norbait hil zutela uste zen.

Le 27 juin dernier, je reçus du sergent Cuff l'ordre de suivre trois hommes, soupçonnés de meurtre, et paraissant être des Indiens.

On the twenty-seventh of June last, I received instructions from Sergeant Cuff to follow three men; suspected of murder, and described as Indians.

On receiving this intelligence, Sergeant Cuff caused the authorities at Bombay to be communicated with, overland-so that the vessel might be boarded by the police immediately on her entering the port.

Cuff sarjentuak eskatu dit gertaera jakin batzuen berri emateko idatziz. Joan den udan nire agindupean Bonbaira zuzenean zihoan Bewley Castle ontzian bidaiatzen zuten hiru gizon (indiarrak, itxura guztien arabera) daude nahasita gertaera horietan.

El Sargento Cuff me ha pedido que describa ciertos hechos relativos a tres hombres (según parece indostánicos) que viajaron como pasajeros durante el último verano en el Bewley Castle, mientras iba este en viaje directo hacia Bombay, bajo mi comando.
