Ocean i3 project

Managing multilingualism and multiculturalism in the cross border Ocean i3 project of the Euskampus-Bordeaux Campus

Description:

This study investigates the multilingual and multicultural character of the cross border project Ocean i3, a project carried out by members of the University of the Basque Country and the University of Bordeaux.  The project focuses on the challenge  of the ocean’s plastic pollution and its mission is to contribute to the reduction of pollution on the Basque-Aquitaine transboundary coast.

In this project many languages come together, such as Basque, Spanish, French and English. Therefore, the use of those languages is studied with the aim of improving the multilingual dynamics in this project.

With the aim of preserving and supporting de linguistic diversity in the cross border projects of the university, this study consists of three phases: 1) a diagnosis of the language use and the linguistic needs of the participants, 2) the development of interventions in order to promote an inclusive environment towards all languages and 3) the development of a language policy in order to promote linguistic diversity and help the participants to manage more easily within this multilingual environment.
