The Sustainability Directorate, answering to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Innovation, Social Commitment and Cultural Action, was set up in February 2017 with the mission of fostering the culture of sustainability and social commitment among the university community and in society in general. It is involved in the field of teaching, as well as in management and research in order to:

• Promote more efficient use of our resources, consistent with looking after and improving the environment and people’s quality of life.
• Create an innovative and entrepreneurial academic environment fostering efficient and creative development solutions to address the problems facing us in the 21st century.
• Drive the change towards a socially committed university and which fosters values of inclusion, equity and sustainability.
• Deploy actions aimed at maximising the benefits and minimising the negative impacts of the university activity, along with contributing to the socio-economic transformation and to the social development of our environment and planet.
