Aloña Retegi

Biography

Aloña Retegi Miner is Professor of the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering from October 2007. She teaches several courses both degrees in Chemical Engineering and Technical Architecture of the University of the Basque Country and master's level in Renowable materials Engineering also taught at the same University. She studied Materials Engineering at the Engineering School of Bilbao (2005) and then her Ph.D. in 2009 in Materials Engineering with the job title "Development of bionanocomposites based on cellulose microfibrils" under the direction of Iñaki Mondragon Egaña. She also made the Master of Engineering in Wood, Paper and Biomaterials (2006). Belongs to Materials + Technologies Group since 2001 where she started in order to run the final project of Chemical Engineering in the area of natural fibers and their composites and from that work, she has been developing her research in the field of natural fiber composites, biopolymers and bacterial cellulose, both in its biosynthesis and also different forms of application in biocomposites.

Research

She has participated in several projects of applied research projects with companies and calls in regional, national (National Scientific and Technical Research, Materials Area) and European research projects. She currently heads a dissertation related to the development of bacterial cellulose from agroindustrial wastes that is in its final year. She has 20 publications, in the area of Chemical and Materials Engineering, in international journals indexed in JCR, has published two book chapters and has more than 40 communications in national and international conferences.
