Vitoria-Gasteiz is the capital city in the Basque territory of Alava.

The city stands out for its green belt. In 2012, the city was elected as the European Green Capital by the European Commission.

Vitoria-Gasteiz is built around its old medieval part with its original almond-shaped plan, which is more than suitable for walking tours. You will discover beautiful places such as the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, Casa del Cordón Palace and the cathedral of Santa Maria.

You can also enjoy the extensive range of gastronomy that the city offers, with the local mix of traditional and avant-garde cuisine. You can have a pintxo in the uncountable bars and pubs of the city centre, just two minutes away from the conference’s main venue.

The conference will be held in various buildings, all of them in the university campus in the city:

  • The plenary meetings and posters will be held in the Main Hall of the Faculty of Arts.
  • The simultaneous meetings will be held in different rooms in the Micaela Portilla Research Centre, just across the Faculty of Arts.
  • The AI workshop will take place at Las Nieves building.
  • Meals will be served in the lunch room at the Pabellón Universitario, an annex building to the Faculty of Arts.
All the buildings are located at walking distance from each other and moving around them will be easy.

The Campus of Alava is near the city’s main train station. However, the Faculty of Arts is within walking distance from the main attractions and places to visit. You can walk to the downtown, however, you can also use the city’s tram system or the public buses.
