Brief description: The goal is to produce a vaccine lead for all types of HIV-1 infection, and as such, it is of relevance to all of the key populations targeted by CIHR¿s HIV/AIDS Research Initiative. The investigators seek to produce a vaccine that will mimic the structure of the membrane proximal external region of gp41 (MPER) as it exists on the virus; by mimicking the neutralization-competent structure of the MPER, with the expectation of producing a vaccine that elicits antibodies that will bind to the MPER on the virus and block it from successfully infecting cells.
