INTERREG PROGRAMME

Interreg is a key European Union (EU) instruments that strengthens cooperation between regions and countries within the EU. As part of the EU’s Cohesion Policy, Interreg plays a vital role in promoting regional development, cohesion, and reducing economic disparities. For the 2021-2027 period, Interreg is focused on addressing current challenges like climate change, digital transformation, and social inclusion.

 

Cross border, Turning Border Obstacles into Opportunities

POCTEFA

POCTEFA is a European cross-border cooperation program created to promote the sustainable development of the border territory of Spain, France and Andorra. It helps to reduce the differences in the development of the territory and to join forces to achieve a sustainable development of the region and the cohesion of the regions that form it. In short, the program, thanks to European funds, helps to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area.

Thematic priorities: 

  1. Creating a common space for knowledge and innovation
  2. Protecting and consolidating ecological values
  3. Facilitating access to employment and training
  4. Building an inclusive and socially integrated space.
  5. Promoting sustainable tourism and develop culture.
  6. To territorially, socially and economically vertebrate the space.
  7. Towards a more integrated cross-border area

Cooperation areas:

  • ESPAÑA: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Araba /Álava, Navarra, La Rioja, Huesca, Zaragoza, Lleida, Girona and Barcelona.
  • FRANCE: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Ariège, Haute-Garonne, Hautes Pyrénées, Pyrénées-Orientales.
  • ANDORRA: All territory.

Transnational, Supporting Larger Scale Initiatives 

SUDOE

SUDOE is a European transnational cooperation program that supports cooperation between the regions of Southwest Europe.

Thematic priorities:

  1. Preserve natural capital and strengthen adaptation to climate change in the Sudoe.
  2. Promote social cohesion and territorial and demographic balance in the Southwest through innovation and the transformation of productive sectors.
  3. Promote social cohesion and territorial and demographic balance in the Sudoe through social innovation, enhancement of heritage and services.
  4. Strengthen the impact of the SUDOE in the territories.

ATLANTIC AREA

The Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 supports transnational cooperation in the Atlantic regions of four countries: Portugal, Spain, France and Ireland. It commits with the Atlantic regions in the support of innovative initiatives that contribute to the growth of this area, solving common challenges across border through the implementation of joint actions, exchange of good practices and contribution to new or current policies.

Thematic priorities:

  1. Blue Innovation and Competitiveness
  2. Blue and Green Environment
  3. Sustainable Tourism and Culture
  4. A better Governance for Cooperation

Interreg POCTEFA seeks to strengthen socio-economic integration of the France-Spain-Andorra cross-border regions and is organised into 5 strategic axes.

Interreg Europe helps regional and local governments across Europe to develop and deliver better policy. Although agencies, research institutes, thematic and non-profit organisations are not the main target group of this programme, these types of organisations can also work with Interreg Europe by first engaging with their local policymakers in order to identify options for collaboration within Interreg Europe.

The programme is open to any organisation located in the EU, Switzerland and Norway.
