Brief description: ENLIGHT is a European university alliance of nine comprehensive, research-intensive universities firmly rooted in their local and regional communities. The addition of the University of Bern as a tenth member will enrich our activities and widen our scope as a role model alliance within and outside the EU. ENLIGHT targets six global transdisciplinary challenges, adding Culture and Creativity for this second phase.

Selected under the 2020 call, ENLIGHT has developed high-quality education, created expert networks, built joint R&I capacity, and embarked first cohorts of students and staff in addressing complex global challenges to become capable, engaged global citizens, infused with the ENLIGHT mind-set.

Building on the foundations of the first phase, ENLIGHT will continue to seed educational transformation across our alliance taking us forward to become a fully-fledged European University. This will be achieved by embedding, upscaling and mainstreaming our innovative

ENLIGHT instruments, unlocking their full potential to empower learners, teachers and researchers to shape a better future.

ENLIGHT mobilises all four HE missions: education, research, innovation and service to society. The ENLIGHT ‘open space’ will allow our students and staff to learn, teach, cooperate, create and innovate.

Our low-hurdle, flexible and innovative learning opportunities will equip the next generation of Europeans with future-proof skills and broad competences, multilingual and global perspectives across borders, sectors and academic disciplines.

Thematic knowledge creating teams will enable learners, teachers and researchers to work with their surrounding ecosystem, cities and communities on impactful solutions for real-life complex challenges, contributing to the knowledge economy, employment, creativity, culture and well-being.

Our impact-driven ENLIGHT culture will inspire peer alliances and increase the quality, performance, and competitiveness of European higher education.
