ERA-NET

The ERA-NET scheme emerged in the EU's Sixth Framework Programme for RTD to support cooperation and coordination of national activities, programmes and initiatives related to science, technology and innovation with the aim of strengthening the European Research Area (ERA).

In most ERA-NETs, coordination has reached the point of being able to launch calls for grants for joint research projects. These are transnational calls to which common application, evaluation and selection procedures are applied for proposals, which have been developed and agreed upon by all participating agencies.

The projects presented are two/three years long, close to the market, and with the aim of covering the needs of the company.

Era-Nets can be in any field of Science and Technology. You can see data of the ERANETS in which Spain has participated in previous years here.

FORMTOOL: Innovative methods of sheet metal forming tools surfaces improvement

Specific programme: MANUNET III - Era-Net on Advanced Manufacturing Technologies
UPV/EHU Partner Status: Subcontracted to SME
UPV/EHU PI: Aitzol Lamikiz
Project start: 01/01/2015
Project end:   31/12/2017

Brief description:  The project is focused on developing and verifying a new advanced technology for improvement of sheet-metal forming tools surfaces in order to obtain better performances, lower costs and lower environmental impacts of sheet-metal parts production processes. The attention is paid to issue of stamping and metal spinning tools and its application in metal forming processes of different challenging materials, such as Al-alloy, Mg-alloy, Ni-alloy, duplex and super-duplex stainless steels. It aims to demonstrate the technical, economical and environmental feasibility of advanced forming tool surfaces treatment by laser micro-structuring (texturing) and hydrostatic ball-burnishing applied to improve the stability of forming processes.
