ZARATHUSTRA'S PROLOGUE.

Zaratustra, hogeita hamar urte betetzean, utzi sorterria eta sorterriko lakua eta mendira joan zen.

Cuando Zaratustra tenía treinta años abandonó su patria y el lago de su patria y marchó a las montañas.

Lorsque Zarathoustra eut atteint sa trentième année, il quitta sa patrie et le lac de sa patrie et s'en alla dans la montagne.

When Zarathustra was thirty years old, he left his home and the lake of his home, and went into the mountains.

Hemen bere izpirituaz eta bere bakardadeaz gozatu zuen eta hamar urtetan ez zen nekatu.

Allí gozó de su espíritu y de su soledad y durante diez años no se cansó de hacerlo.

Là il jouit de son esprit et de sa solitude et ne s'en lassa point durant dix années.

There he enjoyed his spirit and solitude, and for ten years did not weary of it.

Azkenean, ordea, aldatu zuen bere bihotza,-eta goiz batez jaiki zen oskorriarekin, eman zion aurpegi eguzkiari eta honela mintzatu zitzaion:

Pero al fin su corazón se transformó,-y una mañana, levantándose con la aurora, se colocó delante del sol y le habló así:

Mais enfin son coeur se transforma,-et un matin, se levant avec l'aurore, il s'avança devant le soleil et lui parla ainsi:

But at last his heart changed,-and rising one morning with the rosy dawn, he went before the sun, and spake thus unto it:

"Hi, izar handi hori!

"¡Tú gran astro!

"O grand astre!

Thou great star!

Zer huke hire zoriona, hik argi egiten diean horiek gabe!

¡Qué sería de tu felicidad si no tuvieras a aquellos a quienes iluminas!.

Quel serait ton bonheur, si tu n'avais pas ceux que tu éclaires?

What would be thy happiness if thou hadst not those for whom thou shinest!

Hamar urtez etorri haiz hona, nire haitzulora:

Durante diez años has venido subiendo hasta mi caverna:

Depuis dix ans que tu viens vers ma caverne:

For ten years hast thou climbed hither unto my cave:

heure argiaz eta heure bideaz gogaiturik hengoke ni, nire arranoa eta nire sugea gabe.

sin mí, mi águila y mi serpientete habrías hartado de tu luz y de este camino.

tu te serais lassé de ta lumière et de ce chemin, sans moi, mon aigle et mon serpent.

thou wouldst have wearied of thy light and of the journey, had it not been for me, mine eagle, and my serpent.

Baina goizero itxaroten genian, hartzen genian hire soberakina eta horregatik bedeinkatzen hindugun.

Pero nosotros te aguardábamos cada mañana, te liberábamos de tu sobreabundancia y te bendecíamos por ello.

Mais nous t'attendions chaque matin, nous te prenions ton superflu et nous t'en bénissions.

But we awaited thee every morning, took from thee thine overflow and blessed thee for it.

Asperturik negok neure jakituriaz, ezti gehiegi bildu duen erlea bezala; hedatzen diren eskuak behar dizkiat.

Estoy hastiado de mi sabiduría como la abeja que ha recogido demasiada miel, tengo necesidad de manos que se extiendan.

Je suis dégoûté de ma sagesse, comme l'abeille qui a amassé trop de miel. J'ai besoin de mains qui se tendent.

I am weary of my wisdom, like the bee that hath gathered too much honey; I need hands outstretched to take it.

Opariak egin eta banaketan aritu nahi nikek, harik eta gizonen arteko jakintsuak berriro beren eromenaz eta behartsuak berriro beren aberastasunaz pozik egon arte.

Me gustaría regalar y repartir hasta que los sabios entre los hombres hayan vuelto a regocijarse con su locura, y los pobres, con su riqueza.

Je voudrais donner et distribuer, jusqu'à ce que les sages parmi les hommes soient redevenus joyeux de leur folie, et les pauvres, heureux de leur richesse.

I would fain bestow and distribute, until the wise have once more become joyous in their folly, and the poor happy in their riches.

Horretarako hosinera jaitsi behar diat: hik arratsean egiten duanez, itsasoaren atzekaldera joan eta Azpimunduari argia eramaten dioanean, hik izar oparo horrek!

Para ello tengo que bajar a la profundidad: como haces tú al atardecer, cuando traspones el mar llevando luz incluso al submundo, ¡astro inmensamente rico!

Voilà pourquoi je dois descendre dans les profondeurs, comme tu fais le soir quand tu vas derrière les mers, apportant ta clarté au-dessous du monde, ô astre débordant de richesse!

Therefore must I descend into the deep: as thou doest in the evening, when thou goest behind the sea, and givest light also to the nether-world, thou exuberant star!

Nik ere, hik bezala, behera joan behar diat, ni jaitsi nahi natzaien gizonek esaten dutenez.

Yo, lo mismo que tú, tengo que hundirme en mi ocaso, como dicen los hombres a quienes quiero bajar.

Je dois disparaître ainsi que toi, me coucher, comme disent les hommes vers qui je veux descendre.

Like thee must I GO DOWN, as men say, to whom I shall descend.

Beraz bedeinka nazak, bada, Begi baketsu horrek, bekaitzik gabe zorionik handiena ere ikusteko gauza haizen horrek!

¡Bendíceme, pues, ojo tranquilo, capaz de mirar sin envidia incluso una felicidad demasiado grande!

Bénis-moi donc, oeil tranquille, qui peux voir sans envie un bonheur même sans mesure!

Bless me, then, thou tranquil eye, that canst behold even the greatest happiness without envy!

Bedeinka ezak edalontzia, gainezka egin nahi duena, bertatik urrezko ura darion eta noranahi hire distiraren gozamena daraman.

¡Bendice la copa que quiere desbordarse para que de ella fluya el agua de oro llevando a todas partes el resplandor de tus delicias!

Bénis la coupe qui veut déborder, que l'eau toute dorée en découle, apportant partout le reflet de ta joie!

Bless the cup that is about to overflow, that the water may flow golden out of it, and carry everywhere the reflection of thy bliss!

Lo!

Edalontzi honek berriro hutsik geratuko nahi dik, eta Zaratustrak berriro gizon izan nahi dik".

Esta copa quiere vaciarse de nuevo, y Zaratustra quiere volver a hacerse hombre."

cette coupe veut se vider à nouveau et Zarathoustra veut redevenir homme."

This cup is again going to empty itself, and Zarathustra is again going to be a man.

Zaratustra bakarrik jaitsi zen menditik eta ez zuen inorekin topo egin.

Zaratustra bajó solo de las montañas sin encontrar a nadie.

Zarathoustra descendit seul des montagnes, et il ne rencontra personne.

Zarathustra went down the mountain alone, no one meeting him.

Baina oihanean sartzean agure batek aurre eman zion bapatean, zeinak bere txosna santua utzia baitzuen oihanean sustraiak bilatzeko.

Pero cuando llegó a los bosques surgió de pronto ante él un anciano que había abandonado su santa choza para buscar raíces en el bosque.

Mais lorsqu'il arriva dans les bois, soudain se dressa devant lui un vieillard qui avait quitté sa sainte chaumière pour chercher des racines dans la fôret.

When he entered the forest, however, there suddenly stood before him an old man, who had left his holy cot to seek roots.

Eta honela mintzatu zitzaion agurea Zaratustrari:

And thus spake the old man to Zarathustra:

Zaratustra zian izena; baina aldatu egin duk.

Zaratustra se llamaba; pero se ha transformado.

Il s'appelait Zarathoustra, mais il s'est transformé.

Zarathustra he was called; but he hath altered.

Orduan heure errautsak heramatzan mendira:

Entonces llevabas tu ceniza a la montaña:

Tu portais alors ta cendre à la montagne;

Then thou carriedst thine ashes into the mountains:

gaur heure sua eraman nahi al duk ibarretara?

¿quieres hoy llevar tu fuego a los valles?

veux-tu aujourd'hui porter ton feu dans la vallée?

wilt thou now carry thy fire into the valleys?

Ez al diok beldurrik suemaile-zigorrari?

¿No temes los castigos que se imponen al incendiario?

Ne crains-tu pas le châtiment des incendiaires?

Fearest thou not the incendiary's doom?

Bai, ezagutzen diat Zaratustra.

Sí, reconozco a Zaratustra.

Oui, je reconnais Zarathoustra.

Yea, I recognise Zarathustra.

Begia garbi dik, eta ahoan ez dik nazkarik gordeta.

Puro es su ojo, y en su boca no se oculta náusea alguna.

Son oeil est limpide et sur sa lèvre ne se creuse aucun pli de dégoût.

Pure is his eye, and no loathing lurketh about his mouth.

Ez al zebilek dantzari baten erara?

¿No viene hacia acá como un bailarín?

Ne s'avance-t-il pas comme un danseur?

Goeth he not along like a dancer?

Aldatu egin duk Zaratustra, haur bihurtu duk Zaratustra, itzartu bat duk Zaratustra:

Zaratustra está transformado, Zaratustra se ha convertido en un niño, Zaratustra es un despierto:

Zarathoustra s'est transformé, Zarathoustra s'est fait enfant, Zarathoustra s'est éveillé:

a child hath Zarathustra become; an awakened one is Zarathustra:

zer nahi duk bada lokartuen artean?

¿qué quieres hacer ahora entre los que duermen?

que vas-tu faire maintenant auprès de ceux qui dorment?

what wilt thou do in the land of the sleepers?

Itsasoan bezala bizi hintzen bakardadean, eta itsasoak ekarri hinduen.

En la soledad vivías como en el mar, y el mar te llevaba.

Tu vivais dans la solitude comme dans la mer et la mer te portait.

As in the sea hast thou lived in solitude, and it hath borne thee up.

Ai ene, lehorrera jaitsi nahi al duk?

Ay, ¿quieres bajar a tierra?

Malheur à toi, tu veux donc atterrir?

Alas, wilt thou now go ashore?

Ai ene, berriro heure gorputza arrastaka erabili nahi al duk?"

Ay, ¿quieres volver a arrastrar tú mismo tu cuerpo?

Malheur à toi, tu veux de nouveau traîner toi-même ton corps?"

Alas, wilt thou again drag thy body thyself?"

Zaratustrak erantzun zion:

Zaratustra respondió:

Zarathustra answered:

"Nik maite ditut gizonak".

"Yo amo a los hombres."

"J'aime les hommes."

"I love mankind."

"Zergatik", esan zuen Santuak "joan nauk ni oihanera eta basamortura?

¿Por qué, dijo el santo, me marché yo al bosque y a las soledades?

"Pourquoi donc, dit le sage, suis-je allé dans les bois et dans la solitude?

"Why," said the saint, "did I go into the forest and the desert?

Agian gizonak gehiegi maite nituelako ez al duk izan?

¿No fue acaso porque amaba demasiado a los hombres?

N'était-ce pas parce que j'aimais trop les hommes?

Was it not because I loved men far too well?

Orain Jainkoa maite diat:

Ahora amo a Dios:

Maintenant j'aime Dieu:

Now I love God:

ez diat gizonik maite.

a los hombres no los amo.

je n'aime point les hommes.

men, I do not love.

Gizona gauza akastuna iruditzen zaidak.

El hombre es para mí una cosa demasiado imperfecta.

L'homme est pour moi une chose trop imparfaite.

Man is a thing too imperfect for me.

Gizonarenganako maitasunak hil egingo nindukek."

El amor al hombre me mataría.

L'amour de l'homme me tuerait."

Love to man would be fatal to me."
