Estibalitz Asua was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1982. She received the Electronic Engineering degree and the PhD degree, both from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Spain, in 2005 and 2009 respectively. After several teaching positions in the UPV/EHU and in the University of Navarre, Spain, she is currently working as an Associate Professor in UPV/EHU. Her PhD thesis' topic was micro- and nano-positioning using smart materials. Her current research interests cover two main topics: development and application of smart sensors and actuators and scientific instrumentation; and development of intelligent systems to improve advanced comfort and driver assistance systems in vehicles.

Koldo Basterretxea Oyarzabal (Univertsitateko Irakasle Titularra)
Koldo Basterretxea received the Licenciado degree in physics (MSc) with specialization in Electronics and Automatic Control in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in physics in 2002, both from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Basque Country, Spain. He was a Lecturer at the Electronics and Telecommunications Department at the Industrial Technical Engineering School (EUITI) of Eibar (UPV/EHU), from 1995 to 1998, and at the EUITI of Bilbao (UPV/EHU) from 1998 to 2008. Currently he is with the Departament of Electronics Technology at the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV/EHU) where he holds the position of Associate Professor since 2009. His research interests include digital design of adaptive systems on FPGAs, hardware design for high-speed real-time controllers, hardware acceleration of optimization algorithms, neural/fuzzy hardware, hardware/software co-design, and applied soft computing.
