Dr. Faustino Mujika Garitano

Faustino Mujika Garitano is Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Area of Knowledge “Mechanics of Continuous Media and Theory of Structures”, at the Faculty of Engineering, Gipuzkoa, belonging to the UPV/EHU. He graduated as Industrial Engineer in the specialty of Mechanics at the School of Industrial Engineering of San Sebastian (University of Navarra). He developed the doctoral thesis entitled “Analysis of bending behavior and influence of temperature in unidirectional carbon/epoxy composites” under the direction of Professor Iñaki Mondragon Egaña, within the Materials+Technologies group, obtaining the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

As far as teaching activity is concerned, at undergraduate level he has taught subjects related to Mechanics and Elasticity and Strength of Materials. At Master's level, he has taught subjects related to the Mechanics of Composite Materials at the Faculty of Engineering, Gipuzkoa and the Bilbao School of Engineering. He has supervised 9 doctoral theses related to the mechanical behavior of Composite Materials.

Concerning the research, it has analyzed mechanical tests related to the flexural behavior of composite laminates, introducing methodological novelties and new test methods. Simple and economical test methodologies have been proposed using novel and more developed analytical models. He is currently in charge of the “Mechanics of Materials” Group. He has participated in numerous national and international conferences. He has published more than 50 articles included in the Web of Science, 27 of which are directly related to the 9 doctoral theses directed.
