With the collaboration of Medicusmundi Araba and Medicusmundi Gipuzkoa, LCTG is making progress in quantifying the impacts of fair trade and organic coffee, sugar and cocoa. In the current international market, the exchange of products brings with it an injustice in terms of payment and management of socio-environmental impacts. The countries of the Global North continue to use the countries of the Global South for their supply of products and labour. Through the Life Cycle Assessment tool, the environmental impacts of Fairtrade and Organic certified products are being measured. In this way, the differences in environmental impacts between the current traditional model based on the massive use of agrochemicals, massive use of fossil fuels and intensive machinery, and the agro-ecological model requested by fair trade, which in addition to the environment takes care of international justice in the economic exchange between people, are being assessed.
