Principal Investigator

Gorka Galicia Aizpurua

Dr. Gorka Galicia Aizpurua is a Full Professor of Civil Law at the University of the Basque Country. He holds a degree and PhD in Law from the aforementioned University, and received the “Kutxa End of Studies” Award for the best academic record in his graduating year. His doctoral thesis ("Legítima y troncalidad: la sucesión forzosa en el Derecho de Bizkaia") was awarded with the “III Premio Francisco de Asís Sancho Rebullida”.

He has been Director of the Department of Civil Law at the UPV/EHU (2011-2016) and substitute Magistrate of the Provincial Court of Gipuzkoa (2018-2021). He is a member of the Basque Civil Law Commission, a consultative body whose mission is to promote the development of Basque Civil Law and to advise the Basque Parliament and Government in this field. Since 2014, he has been a lecturer and activity tutor on the distance learning course on this subject organised annually by the CGPJ's Judicial School.

He has been Principal Investigator in several contracts with companies and public administrations and R&D Projects, both national and regional. He is currently Principal Investigator of the R&D Project of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the State Research Agency on “Personal guarantees in the Spanish civil legal system: uncertainty over substantive and insolvency law " (PID2020-119816GB-I00) and of the Consolidated Research Group of the Basque Government “Person, family and patrimony” (GIC IT1445-22).

His field of research in mainly focused on patrimonial civil law: law of obligations and contracts, security interests and personal guarantees, inheritance law.
