Biography

Doctor Lorena Ugarte coursed Industrial Technical Engineering, specialized in Industrial Chemistry in at Engineering School of Gipuzkoa (2008) as well as Industrial Engineering in Mondragon Unibertsitatea (2011). She also studied the Master's Degree in Renewable Materials Engineering (2012). She joined the GMT "Materials + Technologies" research group in 2012, after being granted with a Ph. D. Fellowship. She obtained the PhD Degree from UPV/EHU in 2016 with a thesis project entitled "Polyurethanes based on renewably sourced polyols: thermoplastic polyurethanes, flexible and rigid foams and foam nanocomposites" under the supervision of Doctors Arantxa Eceiza and Marian Corcuera. Nowadays, she combines research and teaching in the Department of Graphic Expression and Engineering Projects.

Research

Her research is based on the synthesis of renewably sourced polyurethane foams and on the preparation of nanocomposites with specific properties. The research in the field of nanocomposites is centered, on the one hand, on the use of renewably sourced nanocellulose as reinforcement in polyurethane foams and, on the other hand, in the isolation and functionalization of graphene as well as the preparation of porous conductive nanocomposites.
