Biography
Andrea Ugarte Madrazo completed her Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty os Science and Technology (2021) and obtained a Master’s degree in Renewable Materials Engineering at the School of Engineering in Gipuzkoa (2022), both at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). In November 2022, she joined to the ‘Materials + Technologies’ (GMT) Research Group at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environment of UPV/EHU through a scholarship funded by the University of the Basque Country to carry out her thesis. She is doing her thesis in collaboration with the research centre Tecnalia, under the supervision of Dr. Arantxa Eceiza and Dr. Raquel Rodriguez, focusing on acrylic-polyurethane hybrid biobased systems.
Research
Her research-line is based on the development of biobased acrylic-polyurethane hybrid systems with antibacterial and/or antifugal properties through environmentally friendly polimerization processes. Her study focuses on the synthesis of waterborne biobased polyurethanes, with high renewable carbon content, as well as the synthesis of water-based acrylic-polyurethane systems. In addition, she also works on the synthesis of chitin and its incorporation into the systems mentioned above in order to provide functionalities such as antimicrobial and/or antifugal.
