Diploma of Advanced Studies and Certificate
The Diploma of Advanced Studies (Diploma de Estudios Avanzados, or DEA) is a certificate recognising a student's doctoral studies; it confirms and guarantees the PhD candidate's research proficiency and recognises the work the student has carried out in a particular field of study.
Once students have completed their academic training and supervised research projects, the knowledge they have gained in the courses, seminars and research undertaken will be assessed by means of a public presentation before a single examination panel appointed for each doctoral programme (R.D. 778/1998, Article 6.2 and Article 1.7 of the Regulations for the Management of Doctoral Programmes at the University of the Basque Country). Students may request their Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) certificate once they have passed this assessment.
This certificate (issued upon request of the student after the corresponding fees have been paid) is to be granted in one of the disciplines stipulated for each doctoral programme. The discipline in which the diploma is issued will be determined by the pertinent department or institution in light of the courses and research projects undertaken by the student and the field of study of this research. The department or institution is to make this determination before the student enrols in the research portion of the doctoral programme.
The diploma will be registered in the University Register of Degrees as a degree specific to the University of the Basque Country.
Students who wish to obtain the diploma may request it at the Master's and PhD Office (doctorado@ehu.eus) and will be issued the certificate upon paying the corresponding fees.
