Chapter XIII. Certificate of exemption from the requirement for basque language level C2 accreditation
Regulations Governing the Management of Doctoral Studies
In accordance with Basque Government Decree 47/2012, it is the responsibility of the universities to issue certificates granting exemptions from the requirement for accreditation with Basque language diplomas and certifications, as established in Article 2 of said decree.
Article 47. Exemption from Basque language Level C2 accreditation.
In order to be eligible for a certificate of exemption from accreditation of Level C2 in the Basque language, the candidate must apply for the certificate when submitting the PhD thesis for academic registry. The following requirements must be fulfilled:
- At least 75% of the PhD thesis must be in Basque or 50% in the case of international PhD theses.
- At least 50% of the viva voce examination must be in Basque and this circumstance must be reflected in the corresponding Graduation Certificate.
The requirements for applying for exemption from the requirement for Level C2 accreditation, as well as the criteria to be used in certifying this exemption, shall be established by the office of the Pro Vice-chancellor with competence in matters related to the Basque language.
The office of the Pro Vice-chancellor with competence in matters related to the Basque language shall, if necessary, ensure that the necessary means of translation are provided to allow all members of the examination committee to understand the student’s viva.
