Handik bi ordutara, laurak aldera, esnatu egin nintzen, gorputzaren nekeak eskatzen zidan atseden hartzeko lehenengo eskaerari erantzuna eman ondoren, egarri itogarria agerian jarri bait zitzaidan berriro. Ezin ninduen loak hartu.

Al cabo de dos horas, alrededor de las cuatro, me desperté. En cuanto quedó satisfecha la primera exigencia opresiva de la fatiga corporal, la torturante sed que padecía volvió a manifestarse.

Deux heures après, c'est-à-dire vers 4 heures, je m'éveillai et les tortures de la soif se firent de nouveau sentir, plus obsédantes que jamais.

Two hours later, that is, about four o'clock, I woke up, for so soon as the first heavy demand of bodily fatigue had been satisfied, the torturing thirst from which I was suffering asserted itself.

I had been dreaming that I was bathing in a running stream, with green banks and trees upon them, and I awoke to find myself in this arid wilderness, and to remember, as Umbopa had said, that if we did not find water this day we must perish miserably.
