CHAPTER ONE. The Sound of the Shell

Mutil horailak harkaitzaren azkeneko metroak zirristaka jaitsi eta aintzira alderako bidea urratzeari ekin zion.

El muchacho rubio descendió un último trecho de roca y comenzó a abrirse paso hacia la laguna.

Le garçon blond descendit les derniers rochers et se dirigea vers la lagune en regardant où il posait les pieds.

The boy with fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way toward the lagoon.

Eskolako jertsea erantzirik eta esku batetik herrestan, baina hala ere alkandora arrea gorputzari eta ilea bekokiari itsatsita zeramatzan.

Le garçon blond s'arrêta et se débarrassa de ses chaussettes d'un geste machinal. L'espace d'une seconde, son geste évoqua le c?ur de l'Angleterre et la jungle fut oubliée.

The fair boy stopped and jerked his stockings with an automatic gesture that made the jungle seem for a moment like the Home Counties.

"This is an island.

The fair boy began to pick his way as casually as possible toward the water.

The fair boy said this solemnly; but then the delight of a realized ambition overcame him. In the middle of the scar he stood on his head and grinned at the reversed fat boy.

The fat boy thought for a moment.

Le blond retomba sur ses pieds et s'assit sur la terre brûlante.

The fair boy allowed his feet to come down and sat on the steamy earth.

"When we was coming down I looked through one of them windows.

Y avait des flammes qui en sortaient.

I saw the other part of the plane.
