Gorka Zubia was born in Barakaldo, Spain in 1996. He received the B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees in telecommunications engineering from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 2021. He was awarded the Ikasiker Research Collaboration Fellowship by the Basque Government (Spain). He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in photonics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He was honored with the Predoctoral Fellowship of the Basque Government to conduct his Ph.D. research within the Applied Photonics Group (APG), UPV/EHU. His research interest focuses on photonic devices for structural health monitoring and communications. Gorka has done a predoc research stay at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida (UCF). He has been an active member of the Microstructured Fibers and Devices (MOF) research group, led by Prof. Rodrigo Amezcu. During his stay, Mr. Zubia Garea focused on the characterization of Hollow Core Fibers for data transmission in the C band (telecom band). Since 2023, Gorka is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Graphic Design and Engineering Project at the UPV/EHU. Gorka has teached at the UPV/EHU: Electromagnetic Fields, High-Frequency Systems, Optical Communications, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Vehicle Systems Control and Driving Assist Systems, Automatism and Control, Computer Controlled Systems, Industrial Computing, Project Management, Engineering Projects and Engineering Drawing. Gorka is a proud SPIE and IEEE Photonics member. In his personal life, Gorka does weightlifting and trekking. He is an astronomy enthusiast and a wasted TeX user who likes traveling, roadtrips and is always open to meet new people!
