Dr. Balluerka obtained her degree in Psychology from the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea in 1989, where she also completed her PhD in 1993. On both occasions she obtained the Extraordinary Prize.
After completing her degree, she began her teaching career in the Faculty of Psychology at the UPV/EHU. Since 2009, she has been a professor in the area of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences, with a strong commitment to teaching and academic leadership.
Dr. Balluerka's research has focused on two main areas. Firstly, she has contributed significantly to the development of methodologies for the elaboration and cross-cultural adaptation of psychological assessment tools. Secondly, she has worked on the design, implementation and evaluation of intervention programmes in various fields of Psychology. Her innovative work has had a lasting impact on the scientific community, with special contributions to Basque society.
She has directed numerous research projects in both the private and public sectors. Additionally, she leads the Qualiker research group, recognised as group A in the Basque University System. She is also the author and co-author of numerous scientific articles, books, book chapters and manuals of assessment and diagnostic instruments.
She has shared her experience and work at numerous national and international conferences and has been invited to lecture at various academic forums.
Her dedication to academic training is also reflected in the direction and co-direction of doctoral dissertations that have received international recognition and extraordinary prizes.
Dr. Balluerka has taken her expertise beyond borders and has completed research stays at prestigious institutions such as Arizona State University, the University of California, and the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research at the University of Manchester.
Commitment with University Management
In addition to her academic and research achievements, Dr. Balluerka has played a prominent role in university management. She has held leadership positions at the UPV/EHU, such as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Vice-Rector for Quality and Teaching Innovation and Postgraduate Studies and International Relations, member of the University Commission for Teaching Evaluation and President of the UPV/EHU Ethics Committee. She is a former Rector of the UPV/EHU, and has been a member of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE).
She is a founding member of the Spanish Association of Methodology of Behavioural Sciences (AEMCCO) and of the European Association of Methodology (EAM). She is currently president of the AEMCCO and is a member of the Executive Committee of the EAM.
She is also a member of the board of trustees of the Basque Foundation for Science Ikerbasque and of the scientific advisory board of the Valencian Community Foundation for Research of Excellence (VaIER). She has also been editor of the official journal of the EAM: "Methodology. European Journal of Research Methods for the Behavioral and Social Sciences". She has also played an important role as external advisor to the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System (AQU).
Awards and Distinctions
Dr. Balluerka has been recognised for her academic excellence and research contributions. She has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes académiques by the Government of the French Republic, has received the prestigious Euskadi Prize for research in the Social Sciences and Humanities, and has been awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Aconcagua in Chile.
