Methodology

The Master's training equates to a total of 60 credits, made up of a teaching stage (40.5 credits) and a research stage (19.5 credits). During the teaching stage 9 course units are usually studied, each one accounting for 4.5 credits, chosen from the 22 course units offered by both universities. There is no minimum number of credits or courses to register for the programme, and as such it can be studied part time, with students completing the Master's over a number of years. This is possible because the majority of the course units are taught either in the mornings or afternoons.Different course units or training modules are taught using teaching methodologies comprising both individual and group activities:* Master's classes* Laboratory practicals* Classroom practicals* Computer practicals* Seminar preparation* Case studies* Visits to research centres* Field tripsThe key learning resources available of note are well-equipped practical laboratories, as well as greenhouses and growth chambers at both universities, allowing students to carry out laboratory practicals in optimum conditions. Visits to research laboratories, with students permitted to occasionally use equipment, also give students the opportunity to improve their practical skills. Training is complemented by classroom and field practicals. The University of the Basque Country and Navarra Public University also have two excellent libraries, with publications, books, and other interesting document sources for working on group seminars. Both campuses have wireless internet networks available, allowing students to work in different places on campus, especially when working in groups and preparing seminars.

Assessment

Each subject is assessed separately, taking into account the specifics of each of the teaching methods used:* Written exam on the fundamental theoretical aspects of the course, assessing students' comprehension of the subject* For seminars, both the composition of written work (finding and adapting the subject bibliography) and the presentation (transmission of knowledge) will be assessed* The practicals report will be used to assess comprehension as well as understanding of concepts and the use of different techniques.* Active participation in various activities (continuous assessment). In terms of all subject grades, if students achieve an average of 5 or higher they can proceed to the research stage. The Master's thesis will be marked by the tutor and two teacher reviewers, and students' performance in their viva will also assessed. This will take place before a board who will evaluate:* Presentation and formal aspects* Clarity of objectives and general clarity of the presentation* Methodology used* Visual Materials* Discussion of results
