BIOGRAPHY

Juan Pablo LANDA ZAPIRAIN, born in Irun (Guipúzcoa - Spain) on 28 August 1953, is University Chair in the Department of Labour Law and Social Security and Head of the Deparment of Labour Law of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Law PhD of the Law Faculty of the University of Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in 1981. He has caried out research at the Universities of Bordeaux, Paris-Sorbonne, Bologna, London School of Economics & Political Sciences of London University, and New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations of Cornell University.

For the past twelve years he has directed several PhDs and doctorate programmes in the Department of Company Law. He has also taken part in doctorate programmes in the universities of KU. Eichstät-Ingolstadt in Baviera, Germany, and Catania and Ferrara in Italy.

In the past ten years he has also directed thirteen research projects externally financed.

He is founding member of a research network on social and employment policies in Europe, set up by professors and researchers belonging to various Spanish and European universities.

He is the author of various scientific books and numerous papers on his areas of expertise, such as labour relations in the public sector, economic layoffs, organisation and functioning of trade unions, social protection and emploment policies, the Spanish social autonomous law and European social law.

He is presently the director of the Basque Observatory of Labour Relations of the UPV and a member of the Board of Editors of the Social Law Review.
