Acquired skills
These are the main competences for which this degree will qualify you:
- To be familiar with the general pathological characteristics of the diseases and disorders that affect organic systems, and specifically those that have an impact on the mouth.
- To know how to identify a patient's concerns and expectations, as well as to express themselves effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing, to patients, their families, the media and other professionals.
- To know how to plan and perform dental treatment that is multidisciplinary, sequential and integrated of limited complexity on patients of all ages and conditions and on patients that require special care.
- To obtain and draw up a medical record that contains all relevant information.
- To recognise a dentist's role in prevention and protection against oral complaints and in the preservation and promotion of health, at both individual and community level.
- To understand a disease's general processes, which include infection, inflammation, alteration of the immune system, degeneration, neoplasia, metabolic alterations and genetic disorders.
- To understand and apply the basic treatment involved in the most common oral-dental treatment of patients of all ages. The therapeutic procedures are to be based on the concept of minimally invasive treatment and a global and integrated approach to oral-dental care.
- To understand and identify the psychological and physical problems arising from domestic violence in order to instruct students in its prevention, early detection, care, and the rehabilitation of the victims of this kind of violence.
- To understand and recognise the structure and normal function of the stomatognatic apparatus, at molecular, cellular, tissular and organic level, during the different stages in life.
- To understand the basic biomedical sciences on which Dentistry is based in order to ensure proper oral-dental care.
- To understand the importance of pursuing their professional duties through respect for a patient's autonomy, beliefs and culture.
- To understand the key aspects of dentistry, including its ethical principles and legal responsibilities.
- To understand the scientific method and have the critical ability to assess accepted knowledge and original information. Be capable of formulating hypotheses, gathering and critically assessing information for problem-solving, following the scientific method.
