Maite García Ruiz is a PhD Assistant Professor at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in the Department of Language and Literature Didactics of the Álava Campus. She holds a diploma in foreign language teaching (2012) (UPV/EHU), a master's degree in English teaching (2015) (University of Idaho, UoI), and a degree in Teaching (2016) (Universidad Camilo José Cela, UCJC). In March 2023 she defended her doctoral thesis, in which she researched the multilingual Family Language Policies of Getxo families in the UPV/EHU Basque Linguistics and Philology programme under the direction of Ibon Manterola (UPV/EHU) and Ane Ortega (BAM).
Nowadays, Maite is working at the UPV/EHU teaching and researching.
As far as teaching is concerned, she has been involved in various subjects in the grades of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Practicum and End-of-grade Work (GrAL).
Regarding research, she is a member of the Elebilab Research Group and the UNESCO World Linguistic Heritage Chair (MHOUK), has participated in the Equiling Project on Critical Language Awareness and Language Agency (2020-2025) and the AMRELSE Research Project (2022-2026). The second one is aimed at investigating the use of minority languages in both the family and other relational networks.
As can be seen from Maite's teaching, PhD topic, research activity and publications, the lines of research of her interest are mainly Family Language Policy, attitudes towards minority languages, language teaching, and didactics and research in general.
