Itziar Cabanes is a Full Professor in the University of the Basque Country. She obtained her Ph.D degree in 2001 in the UPV/EHU with Extraordinary Doctorate Award. She leads the multidisciplinary Virtual Sensorization Research Group, recognized as Group A from the Basque Government. Her research lines focuses on the field of virtual sensors and artificial intelligence to improve manufacturing processes and healthcare applications (rehabilitation robots, smart medical devices, etc.).
She has participated in more than 50 research projects and R&D contracts with companies. She is author of more than 52 articles in indexed scientific journals and more than 30 chapters of books. She is also co-author of more than 110 conferences, where she has been awarded with 9 prizes for the best scientific contribution. She has supervised 10 doctoral theses (one of them obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Award). In addition, she is a project evaluator of Fundamental Research Projects of the Spanish State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, and of the Spanish National Agency of Evaluation and Prospective (ANEP) since 2011 to the present.
She has taught Bachelor’s and Master’s lectures in 10 degrees. She has been evaluated in Docentiaz programme with mention “Excellent”. She registered two SW tools in Robotics area in the Trademark Registry Office and 3 european patents.
