Alazne Aiestaran Yarza holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of the Basque Country 2007, when she took up her teaching post in the Department of Journalism at the same university. She currently teaches "Copywriting in the Press" on the Journalism, Audiovisual Communication and Publicity and Public Relations Degrees, and the subject "the Local Media" on the Journalism Degree. She taught Euskera to adults for 7 years in AEK, and at the same was Director of the local publication Drogetenitturri, published entirely in Euskera. She worked as a writer for the local television in Ermua. She taught at the University of Mondragon (MU) in 2007-2008 in the Department of Information and Communication.

• In 2014 she was appointed Academic Secretary of the Journalism Department, a post she holds to this day.
• From 2008 to 2012, she was a panel member of the Rikardo Arregi Kazetaritza Sariak awards for journalism in Euskera, organised by the Local Authority of Andoain and the Government Department of Culture.
• Since 2011 she has participated on the Editorial Board of the scientific magazine ZER, Magazine of Communication Studies, of the Social Sciences and Communication Faculty of the University of the Basque Country.
