Araceli Garcia Nuñez
Biography
In 2006 she obtained her Chemical Engineering degree at the Polythecnic School of San Sebastian and in 2007 began to develop his career as a researcher in the UPV / EHU. In January 2009 she earned a PhD fellowship by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Basque Government, and later (in July 2010) she obtained a master degree in Renewable Materials Engineering (UPV / EHU). She conducted several predoctoral stays in different international research centers between 2010 and 2012 (Technical University of Vienna, Austria; University of Technology and Economics, Budapest, Hungary; Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Italy). In March 2013 she obtained the degree of International Doctor Cum Laude in Renewable Materials Engineering by the University of the Basque Country and under the supervision of Dr. Jalel Labidi and Dr. María González Alriols. After 9 months with a grant to incorporate new doctors in the UPV / EHU, she currently has a 3 years postdoctoral fellowship, granted by the Basque Government in December 2013, as Doctor Researcher abroad and developed in cooperation with the International School of Paper, Print Media and Biomaterials – Pagora (Grenoble, France) under the supervision of Naceur Belgacem and Julien Bras.
Research
As a member of the "Biorefinery Process" group, she was involved in near of 20 research projects funded by international and national competitive calls of governments or public and private entities. She has published 21 articles in international scientific journals, 2 book chapters, and 10 publications series of books and indexed conference proceedings. She has participated in more than 30 international scientific congresses and conferences.
During her predoctoral training, he specialized in the study of Biorefinery processes, including different characterization and extraction techniques (alkaline, organosolv and hydrolysis pretreatments) of different lignocellulosic materials (agricultural and forestry residues). She also studied the application of chemical process simulation and techno-economic optimization in the biorefinery. Concerning the application biorefinery products, she investigated the characterization of lignin and its application as an antioxidant, preservative and antifungal agent. Currently, she conducted her research the use of different lignocellulosic components for the development of biocomposites and their application in the food industry (smart bioactive packaging).
