Guillermo Quindós Andrés

Guillermo Quindós Andrés (b. Urioste-Ortuella, Bizkaia, 1960) holds an MD (1983) and a PhD (with Extraordinary Doctorate Award) (1987) in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in Bilbao. He holds the Chair of Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing since 2001. He holds five six-year research periods and one knowledge-transfer period from the CNEAI and Section A2 for research and teaching from the Social Council of the UPV/EHU. His rating under the Docentiaz programme is "excellent".

He heads the Basque university system Type A consolidated research group Candidiasis y otras infecciones humanas asociadas a biopelículas microbianas [Candidiasis & other human infections associated with microbial biofilms] (IT 990-16). He has taken part in over 40 competitive research projects and research under contract with businesses and institutions. He has directed 22 PhD theses and published over 200 scientific papers, chapters and books in the fields of medical microbiology and infectious diseases. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal Revista Iberoamericana de Micología and the associate editor of Frontiers in Microbiology-Infectious Diseases. In his efforts to disseminate knowledge, he works with the Mundo Micro section of the Radio Euskadi program La Mecánica del Caracol and writes in Mikrobios (Ehusfera), Mikrosphera (SciLogs, Investigación y Ciencia) and The Conversation.

He has worked as head of the Department of Immunology, Microbiology & Parasitology and of its PhD programme (2017-2021). He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Central Public Health Laboratory in London from 1988 to 1989. He has taken part in various ANECA and ANEP programmes as an assessor. He was a member of the UPV/EHU's Committee on Ethics in Experimentation with Animals in 2009-2015.
