Marian Iriarte Ormazabal
Curriculum Vitae
She graduated in Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry in Donostia / San Sebastian in 1985 and obtained her PhD at the UPV/EHU in 1991. Initially she taught classes on Technical Basque and later became a lecturer in Physical Chemistry. She is a tenured lecturer in the department of Polymers and Advanced Materials.
She has worked mainly at the Faculty of Chemistry. Her research work is in the field of polymers, studying them from a chemico-physical perspective. Her research has been redirected towards biodegradable polymers, taking into account how polymers impact on the environment and, specifically, their use in the field of packaging. She has four 6-year research periods and around 40 papers in the field of polymers.
She has been the academic head of the Master’s course in Chemistry and Polymers since 2014. Her lectures on polymers and physical chemistry have been mainly in Basque, and she has published a range of teaching materials on these subjects in Basque.
In the most recent DOCENTIAZ teaching staff evaluation programme assessment she obtained the grade of distinction.
She has worked in the field of university management. In the period 2004-2012 she was Director of External Relations on the Gipuzkoa campus, and from there she fostered and promoted relations with social players. She has promoted entrepreneurship in the university community thanks to the Entreprenari programme. She has been Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry since 2016 and is a member of the university's Degree Committee. She was also a member of the Basque Language Commission from 2017 to 2021.
She also participates in scientific popularization through articles in Berria newspaper, collaborates with Elhuyar, gives talks at arts centres, educational centres and on other forums.
