Javier Varona Guarás

Javier Varona-Guarás (Bilbao, 1967) has a degree in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Deusto and is a career civil servant on the UPV/EHU’s Technical Management Scale, group A . Throughout his professional career, he has completed his training by taking various courses in law, computing and languages.

He began his professional career in 1992 at the company ATTEST CONSULTING S.L., and later, in 1994, continued his professional development at the UPV/EHU where he has been working continuously for more than 30 years.

His first position at the UPV/EHU was in the Internal Audit Service, firstly as Standards and Procedures Officer, and two years later as Internal Auditor. He then worked for four years as Head of the Budget Department and subsequently became Chief of Staff of Studies, Planning and Personnel Training. From 2005 until early 2017, he worked as Head of the Postgraduate Studies Service and on 01/03/2017 became Deputy Manager of Accounting and Budgets at the UPV/EHU, a position he left of his own accord on 31/01/2021.

Since 01/02/2021, he has been working as Head of the Internal Audit Service.
