Magnetoelastic sensors, which undergo mechanical resonance when interrogated with magnetic AC fields at specific frequencies, have been applied to measure various physical quantities and chemical/biological analytes. Their wireless and functionalizable nature makes these sensors good candidates for medical and biological applications, from measuring force and pressure inside the human body to the detection of specific bacteria. This presentation will summarize the design and application of the magnetoelastic sensors for in vivo measurement of forces and pressure, as well as monitoring of cell growth and biological detection. Methods and approaches to optimize the sensitivity and biocompatibility of these sensors will also be discussed.
