Biografia

Antxon Santamaria earned his BS and MS in Physics from the University of Navarra. After finishing his PhD Thesis on the rheology of copolymers in 1980 at the University of the Basque Country he joined the Polymer Science and Engineering group at the University of Tennessee as a Research Associate. Since 1992 he is Full Professor of Applied Physics at the University of the Basque Country. Along the years he has gained positions of responsibility, such as Vice-dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of Donostia-San Sebastián from 1987 to 1989, Director of the Department of Polymer Science and Technology of the UPV/EHU from 1989 to 2009, President of the Spanish Polymer Group (GEP) from 1997 to 2003 and President of the Spanish Rheology Group (GER) from 2006 to 2015. He was awarded with the Golden Medal of this society. He has been evaluator of the European Science Foundation and science agencies in several countries. Concerned by the diglossic state of the Basque language, he has carried out pioneering academic activities for the incorporation of this language to the university.

His research is focussed on basic and applied rheology of polymers and complex systems, in particular gels, copolymers, blends and nanocomposites. Rheological techniques are employed as a tool to characterize materials, for instance molecular architecture and microstructure of polymer systems. The liaison between rheological features, processing (including 3D printing) and advanced properties marks the nuclear subject of his research.

Argitalpenak

He has published 6 books (2 as an Editor), 200 papers in scientific journals, given more than 60 oral communications and keynotes and 15 invited lectures in International Conferences and registered 3 patents. He has directed 24 Doctoral Thesis on the rheology of polymers.
