This course aims to teach students to analyze current economic processes from a critical approach. To this end, it focuses on the study of development and underdevelopment processes, both from a theoretical and empirical perspective.
This includes the analysis of the main currents of economic thought that have marked the debates on the conceptualization and strategies of development, including a current vision of the most significant dimensions and proposals regarding sustainable human development.
This subject has a close link with the subjects analyzed in International Economics, in the first four-month period of the second year of the Bachelor's Degree in Economics, as well as with the optional subject of International Economic Organization in the third year. In the second year, subjects related to international organizations linked to socio-economic development are introduced, which will be studied in depth in the third year by students who are interested in them.

Throughout the course, students are accompanied in their learning process, both in the basic theoretical contents of the subject, as well as in their relational skills with the rest of the group. For this purpose, tasks are carried out, collected in a record book, and computer practices.
At the individual level, students must carry out continuous work throughout the course, since in the lectures time is also devoted to personal reflection on the topics analyzed. This individual work must be collected in a record book in which all the tasks carried out in the master classes and in some practices and seminars are included. All this allows them to develop their capacity for orderly and reasoned written expression. It is also intended that in this way the students make a continuous monitoring of the course and can observe their own evolution throughout the course.
