Analyse and understand, from a historical perspective, the evolution of the Spanish economy in the 19th and 20th centuries, bearing in mind the holistic and systemic nature of economic phenomena. The course addresses the following topics: liberal revolution, industrial revolution and integration into the international economy in the 19th century; second industrial revolution and modernization of the Spanish economy in the first third of the 20th century; Franco's dictatorship,

isolationism and economic backwardness en the 1940s and 1950s; economic openness, outward-looking strategy for economic development and industrial development in the golden years (1959-1973); economic crisis, political change, industrial reconversion and terciarization of the Spanish economy (1974-2008); economic integration into the European Union.

C1- Analyse and understand, from a historical perspective, the evolution of the Spanish economy, bearing in mind the holistic and systemic nature of economic phenomena, (G001, CB1).



C2- Understand the role of economic agents and institutions in the economic development of contemporary Spain(M02CM01)



C3- Knowing how to find, analyse and synthesise relevant economic and statistical information of different origins and sources, with critical thinking, in order to provide reasoned assessments on key issues about the Spanish economic history (G004)



C4- Analyse and understand basic statistical and graphical techniques to represent the economic variables usually employed in economic history and be able to translate their results into the written language (G010)



C5. Communicate information, arguments, problems and solutions in a smooth and correct writing style to both an specialist and non-specialist audience, and respecting academic good practices in use (CB4).



C6. Co-responsibility, cooperation and commitment to team work (G005)



C7. Acquire learning skills needed to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy (CB5).



These competences are translated into the following learning outcomes (LO) that will be duly assessed and graded:



LO1. Know and understand the role of economic agents and institutions in the development of the Spanish economy (C1 and C2)



LO2. Find, arrange and systematise relevant economic and statistical information to carry out a long-term analysis of a key issue of the Spanish economic history (C3 and C4)



LO3. Analyse quantitative and qualitative information, with critical thinking, to explain the multicausality of historical processes within its temporal and social context (C4)



LO4. Write academic reports being able to make clear arguments, accurately expressed, employing the terms and language typical of economic history (C5)



LO5. Develop autonomously complex tasks, both individually and collaboratively, identifying the learning strategies employed and introducing the appropriate improvements needed to assure that process (C6 and C7)

Magister classes aim to present the basic contents of the course, letting know the students the most important issues and

the current academic debates. Seminars and practical classed are focused on the development of individual and/or team

Magister classes aim to present the basic contents of the course, letting know the students the most important issues and the current academic debates. Seminars and practical classed are focused on the development of individual and/or team work and to encourage students's participation and critical thinking.

Students that are legally exempt from doing seminars and practical classes will get the 100% of its final grade through the final written exam.



The exam's characteristics appear in e-Gela. Students will know assessment criteria of the exam questions in class.



Students that wish to renounce to the continuous evaluation must present a written request (paper or via email) to the teacher in the first 9 weeks of the course.



Give up:



If students do not show up in the final written exam, the formally renounce to this calling, even considering they might have carried out the activities of the continuous evaluation.



Students must know and follow the protocol about academic ethics in UPV/EHU.
