Presentation

I am a demographer interested in family demography.

I studied Economics at Bocconi University (Italy), a M.A. in Demography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2012) and I earned my Ph.D. in Social Demography at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2017). Since then, I have worked as assistant Professor at the University of Groningen and I in 2022 I obtained one of the Research Fellow positions offered by the Ikerbasque, Basque Foundation for Science, thanks to which I joined the Social Determinants of Health and Demographic Change-OPIK research group of the UPV/EHU in January 2023. I am an expert of Population Europe, the Network of Europe’s leading Demographic Research Centres in the area of population studies.

My research addresses how (grand)parental support shapes fertility decisions in high-income countries. I work in the areas of fertility and family dynamics, maternal health and wellbeing, social demography, and intergenerational exchanges. Currently, my work focuses mostly on:

(1) Fertility dynamics in the context of low and late fertility

(2) Grandparenthood characteristics and kinship behavior in advanced societies

(3) Social engagement and its implications for both cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes at later ages.
