Travel Information

Donostia-San Sebastián is the capital city of Gipuzkoa, one of the provinces of the Basque Country, a small region in the North of Spain. The official name Donostia-San Sebastián is composed by the union of the Basque (Donostia) and the Spanish (San Sebastián) words. Both are used indistinctly although in general locals prefer the Basque term and foreigners the Spanish. Be aware that many maps, web pages, transportations or hotels may show only one of these words

Arrival by airplane

Donostia-San Sebastián has a small airport  (IATA Code: EAS) placed 20 Km from the city center in the town of Hondarribia, Fuenterrabía in Spanish. It is connected by public buses with the city center. Only a few companies operate in this airport and it is difficult to find economic flights. The neighbour city of Bilbao has a larger airport and usually offers more interesting connections and better fares. The airport of Bilbao is placed in the town of Loiu, about 100 Km from Donostia-San Sebastián. The airport is usually referred as Bilbao-Loiu or simply Loiu (IATA Code: BIO). The bus company PESA connects Bilbao-Loiu Airport with Donostia-San Sebastián every hour (probably every 30 minutes in June). The trip takes 70 minutes and costs 17.10€. Donostia-San Sebastián Bus/Train Station

It is also known as Estación del Norte or Estación de Atotxa. It is placed in the right side of River Urumea (looking from inland) at the level of the beautiful María Cristina Bridge (the third one). It is the main transportation hub of Donostia-San Sebastián connecting long distance buses and trains with the airport buses and other local buses.

The station is reasonably close to the beaches and the city centre but 40-45 minutes walking to the conference venue zone. Bus 45|Atotxa-Antiguo (every 20 minutes) from local bus company d·Bus connect easily the station with the Ondarreta-University zone.
