Research profile
Without completely bypassing a more classic political history perspective, and from a comparative history framework, the Research Group works from the approach of new political history, from which it tackles the study of political cultures in the Basque Country: their backgrounds, leaders, symbols, myths and sites of memory, all of them understood as indispensable features that explain the production and reproduction of all collective identities. Although our chronological framework is particularly centred around the 20th Century, it also extends into the 19th Century. We resort to a wide variety of sources: bibliography, pamphlets, press, documents contained in both public and private archives, literature, posters, photographs, cinema, etc., as all of them help us to trace the gestation and symbolic development of the political cultures found within Basque soil.
