Chapter III. Teaching and grading
Management Regulations for University Master’s Degrees
Article 19.- Assessment and Grading.
1.- The level of learning achieved by students in each subject in the syllabus is expressed in terms of numerical grades on a scale of 0 to 10, to one decimal point. Numerical grades may be accompanied by the corresponding qualitative grade:
- a) 0.0 to 4.9 Suspenso - Fail (SS)
- b) 5.0 to 6.9 Aprobado - Pass (AP)
- c) 7.0 to 8.9 Notable - Merit (NT)
- d) 9.0 to 10 Sobresaliente - Distinction (SB)
One in every twenty (or fraction thereof) students may also pass a subject ‘with Honours’. This distinction may be bestowed on only one student per subject, regardless of the number of groups.
Assessment criteria for the different subjects are outlined in the corresponding Master’s reports, and are approved during the Master’s verification process.
2.- The grades published in the subject records must be signed by the faculty member in charge of said subject. Subject records may not contain any amendments, deletions or corrections. In the event of any amendment, deletion or correction, the records must be completed and expressly signed by the individuals indicated above.
3.- Grades will be published through the computer application established for this purpose by the UPV/EHU, in the place set aside for each Master’s degree, with the date of publication being set in accordance with the deadlines established in article 20 of these regulations.
Article 20.- Grade review and complaint.
Provisional grades will be published alongside the date, time and place where they may be reviewed by the lecturer teaching the subject or academic activity. Requests for said review must be made within a period of three to six calendar days from the date on which the grades were published.
After this time, once the grades have been officially recorded in the subject report, students may lodge an appeal with the Academic Commission of the Master's degree within a period of six calendar days from the date on which said report is published. The Academic Commission of the Master's degree will analyse the appeal and, after taking into consideration the opinion of the lecturer who taught the subject or academic activity, or, where appropriate, that of the assessment panel, and after having taken any action deemed necessary and having interviewed the appellant, will issue its reasoned decision within a maximum period of eight calendar days from the date on which said appeal was lodged. If the decision is made to award a new grade, this will be done by the Academic Commission of the Master's degree, specifically, by means of a vote or by calculating the corresponding mean grade. In such a case, the corresponding report will be modified by the Faculty secretary.
The Academic Commission of the Master's degree will inform the student in writing of its decision. It will also inform the lecturer teaching the subject or academic activity, the department responsible for the subject and the academic secretary of the Faculty, for their information and to enable them to take any steps required.
In the event of their appeal being denied by the Academic Commission of the Master’s degree, students may lodge a complaint with the Dean or the person in charge of the Faculty running the Master’s degree, within a maximum period of four calendar days from the notification of said resolution. A decision regarding the complaint will be made within a maximum of ten calendar days. In the event of the Faculty also denying their appeal, the student may, within a period of one month from the date of notification, have recourse to the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Basque Country.
The decision adopted by the Vice Chancellor will be definitive and will conclude the administrative proceedings.
