Alberto Oleaga is Professor of Applied Physics at the Faculty of Engineering in Bilbao, as well as Head of the Applied Physics I Department and Head of the PhD Programme "Physics" since March 2020; PhD degree in Physics and member of the Academic Committee of the MSc. in Space Science and Technology. He teaches at master level and tutorize Master and PhD Thesis in the aforementioned degrees. He has also taught in several Bachelor in Engineering degrees. He develops his research activities within the Photothermal Techniques Group, on :

1.- Study of the critical behavior in second order phase transitions (magnetic, ferroelectric, superconductive) using photopyroelectric calorimetry and magnetic measurements. Magnetocaloric effect.

2.- Development of new tecnhiques to measure thermal diffusivity and effusivity in all kind of materials: conductors, insulators, porous .. and shapes (layers, threads, tubes) searching for improvements in accuracy and easiness. With photopyroelectric techniques or active infrared thermography.

3.- Characterization of defects in solids by means of active infrared thermography techniques, with optic or ultrasonic excitation (vibrothermography): Characterization of open to surface cracks and subsurface defects (cracks, delaminations, corrossion ...) in metals and composites. These are methods especially adapted to aeronautics and automotive industries.

He has 4 six-year periods of recognised research.
