He has a degree in Basque Philology (1994) and a doctorate in linguistics in 2005. He teaches at the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU) since 2005 and is currently an associate professor in the Department of Basque Language and Communication at the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing.

Since 1995 he has been a researcher. The first two three years in the field of dialects and literature (3 published books). Since 1998 he is a researcher of IXA group, who works in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP). He works more specifically, in lexicon-semantics, machine translation, terminology, corpus, and discourse analysis. He has published 64 articles in international magazines and conferences. Among the publications he has 3 books, 31 publications with ISBN, and 14 publications with ISSN. He has taken part in 46 projects: 3 European projects (QTleap, MT-ENEUS, MEANING), 18 state projects (DOMINO, UnsupNMT, TACARDI, EurOpenTrad, RICOTERM, OpenMT, OpenTrad, HIZKING21, ...), 16 projects of the Basque Government , 9 projects of the UPV / EHU, and 1 projects of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. He has had relationships with companies such as Elhuyar, Eleka, Iametza and Ametzagaña.
