Key aspects of the Master's Degree
Over the last few decades, in the field of Basque linguistics and philology, a great deal of highly relevant research and scientific publications have been carried out, not only in the Basque sphere, but also at national and international level. However, there is still much to be researched and much to contribute for a greater knowledge of the history, the texts and the different uses of the Basque language.
The aim of the Master's Degree in Basque Linguistics and Philology is precisely to train researchers who wish to carry out research into a specific aspect of the Basque language and/or literature from a wide range of perspectives and in a professional manner.
The training programme is structured into five research pathways: Grammar, Diachronic Linguistics and Basque Philology, Dialectology, Literature and Applied Linguistics. Depending on the pathways or lines of research in which students wish to specialise, through the training process they will achieve a mastery of the skills and research methods related to these fields, which will enable them to address the problem-solving needs that may arise in the field of grammar, philology, historical linguistics, dialectology, translation, language teaching and its use in different speech situations. In this way, Master's Degree students will acquire a scientific level of excellence.
On the other hand, thanks to the agreement between the UPV/EHU and the University of Bordeaux-Montaigne, students who wish to are granted the option of obtaining a double Master's Degree. Given that there are limited vacancies, UPV/EHU students who wish to take the double Master's Degree must register before 1 May by informing the Master's Degree management of their intention (arantzazu.elordieta@ehu.eus).
This Master's Degree gives direct access to the PhD Programme in Basque Linguistics and Philology.
