Elena Agirre Basurko has a PhD in Mathematical Sciences (2003) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU) and she is an associate professor at the mentioned university. She has been a professor at the College of Industrial Technical Engineering in Bilbao (1993-2012) in the area of knowledge of Applied Mathematics and she works as a professor in the Faculty of Education and Sport in the area of Teaching of Mathematics since 2012. She has been the Director of the College of Education in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Sport (2014-2017) and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Science Education (2019-2020).



In her PhD she developed an statistic model for short-term real-time prediction of ozone and nitrogen dioxide levels in the city of Bilbao, therefore much of her research work is focused to the study, analysis and design of mathematical-computational models for predictive purposes in air quality.



At present, her academic and research interest are focused on the improvement of classroom practice to upgrade the mathematical learning of both Primary Education students and university students of the Primary Education degree as future teachers.
