I am a scientist with more than 17 years background of specialised research in cancer biology. The basis of my research stems from the hypothesis that transcriptional deregulation impacts on biological processes frequently altered in cancer.
During my pre-doctoral training, I was interested in the crosstalk between transcriptional control of proliferation and differentiation in leukaemia. In 2008, I moved to the ICR (UK) as postdoctoral researcher where I studied the transcriptional networks induced by genetic translocations and the maintenance of pre-leukemic clones. I was later on recruited as senior postdoctoral researcher at CICbioGUNE (2011). There, I developed my own projects at deciphering the transcriptional landscape driving the metabolic switch in prostate cancer, and evaluating the use of extracellular vesicles as non-invasive diagnostic tool. In February 2019 I joined the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Dept at the UPV/EHU as a group leader and a Ramón y Cajal Investigator. My current lines of research are the stratification of aggressive prostate cancer patients (two registered patents) using a transcriptional signatures, and the study of secretome in cancer biology.
Overall, I have a very good publication record with a total of 20 primary research papers and 5 reviews/preview articles. I have directed the thesis of four PhD students and obtained funding as principal investigator for 4 projects.
